Holst and Puccini double bill in Sydney

Sydney is enjoying the flowering of several excellent boutique opera groups offering a diverse range of interesting, unusual and rarely performed works that complement the very standard repertoire provided by the National company.

First cab off the rank this year was Sydney Chamber Opera with the Glass chamber opera IN THE PENAL COLONY. Now it is the turn for new Sydney Independent Opera with a double bill of Holst’s rarely performed THE WANDERING SCHOLAR, and Puccini’s verismo masterpiece – IL TABARRO.

The works will be conducted by Sydney Independent Opera Artistic Director, Steven Stanke and directed by Brendon Carmody.

The casts consist of the following exciting young singers:

THE WANDERING SCHOLAR  - Elli Green, Raphael Hudson, James Olds, Daniel Sloman

IL TABARRO - Sarah Walker, Hester Hannah, Craig Scott, David Visentin, Paul Goodwin-Groen, Rik Dawson Minh Huynh, Mitch Bryson

Performances are on Friday, 1st June and Saturday, 2nd June at 8.00pm at the glorious Independent Theatre, 269 Miller Street, North Sydney and at 3pm on Sunday, 3rd June at the Camden Civic Centre Oxley Street, Camden.

Tickets are at the absurdly low cost of $40 (concession available) and can be booked here:
