Australian contingent at Opera Holland Park

The 2011 opera season of Opera Holland Park features some well known and loved Australians.
Getting the Royal Burrough of Kensington and Chelsea off to a sparkling start is Opera Australia’s ex-Musical Director and Bel Canto specialist, Richard Bonynge, conducting Donizetti’s delightful comic opera DON PASQUALE.
Tenor, Jaewoo Kim, a resident tenor with Opera Australia for many years is performing the Duke in Verdi’s RIGOLETTO conducted by Stuart Stratford.
Adelaide born Kate Ladner, a recent Violetta for Opera Australia is performing Magda in Puccini’s LA RONDINE conducted by Peter Selwyn, which includes fellow Australian Nicolas Todorovic as Rambaldo.

Opera Holland Park 2012 Season

James Clutton of Opera Holland Park announced the 2012 season on Twitter on the 2nd February.
The Season is as follows:
LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR by Gaetano Donizetti
COSI FAN TUTTI by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
GIANNI SCHICCHI by Giacomo Puccini and ZANETTO by Pietro Mascagni Double Bill
EUGENE ONEGIN by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
FALSTAFF by Giuseppe Verdi
No casting details are available as yet.
The season is not as adventurous as past seasons which have included adventurous, rarely performed operas such as Catalani’s LA WALLY, Mascagni’s L’AMICO FRITZ , Previous triumphs include Ponchielli’s LA GIOCONDA, Cilea’s L’ARLESIANA and ADRIANA LECOUVREUR ,Mascagni’s IRIS , Giordano’s FEDORA, Montemezzi’s L’AMORE DEL TRE RE and Zondonai’s FRANCESCA DA RIMINI.
Opera Holland Park 2011 Season

Australians, Australians and Australians continue to make their mark in the UK and London in particular.
Opera Holland Park is staging 7 operas in their 2011 Season.
First up is a new production of Donizetti’s DON PASQUALE to be conducted by Richard Bonynge (proving there is life after being given the flick by Opera Australia after 34 years service including Musical Director for 10 years. Richard Bonynge will also conduct Donizetti’s BELLISARO for the Donizetti Society at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London ).
Kate Ladner stars as Magda in Puccini’s LA RONDINE, Jaewoo Kim will sing Il Duca in Verdi’s RIGOLETTO, and English conductor Peter Robinson (a frequent visitor to Australia) will conduct Catalani’s LA WALLY.
The other operas being staged are Mascagni’s L’AMICO FRITZ, Picker’s FANTASTIC MR FOX and Mozart’s MARRIAGE OF FIGARO.
