Warwick Fyfe to Sing Tonio in I pagliacci
New Zealand Opera has cast this Canberra born Australian baritone as Tonio in their new 2011 production of I Pagliacci scheduled for performances in August and September of 2011 in Auckland and Wellington. Warwick (pictured), a valued principal artist of Opera Australia for many years, has finally progressed to be a major force with which to be reckoned over the last few years. This year in Sydney he performed the roles of Scarpia (Tosca), the title role in Rigoletto and von Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier. All brilliantly sung and acted. Hardly surprising after his stand out performances of the title role of The Flying Dutchman a few years ago. His heldenbaritone is rich, resonant and sonorous, and will surely be used for many great roles of the baritone repertoire both in Australia and New Zealand in the years to come. Can’t wait !
